Progesterone is a sex hormone involved in the menstrual cycle and pregnancy. Progesterone levels increase dramatically when a woman is pregnant, after delivery of the placenta. During lactation, progesterone levels are very low and typically the cause of post-partum depression. Simply taking bio-identical progesterone after giving birth can significantly diminish signs of post-partum depression.
Beginning at peri-menopause through post-menopause, women’s progesterone levels begin to decrease. Symptoms one may experience due to a lack of progesterone may include, sleep disturbances, decreased mood or feelings of sadness, and poor sleep. The benefits of replacing progesterone in your body include: a good night’s sleep, increased mood, counteracting estrogen dominance, minimizing risks of endometrial cancer in women receiving estrogen and it may also reduce the risk of breast cancer.
Keep in mind; we only prescribe bio-identical hormones including compounded progesterone and non-compounded prometrium. The use of synthetic, chemically altered, oral, non bio-identical hormones like progestin can be harmful to your health and may have negative side effects such as cancer.
