Migraines, in many cases, can be linked to exhaustive and prolonged stress. The Brain shuts down as a defense mechanism, and normal functioning ceases to exist. Your body is actually trying to help you, but if you’ve had a migraine before, it’s hard to understand how that is possible.
Unfortunately, common medication treatments for migraines are either not quick enough or completely ineffective. Botox® has been shown to be effective in certain situations, but is a temporary solution.
According to the Migraine Research Foundation, over 12% of the population suffers from migraine. It tends to run in families and is seen as the 8th most disabling illness in the world.
From extensive research using EEG on patients with migraine, it has been found that there is an excess of high, fast-wave activity. This frequency is trained easily with Neurofeedback, and Biofeedback is employed to ensure lasting calm and relaxed states. The powerful combination has shown great results in reducing the frequency and severity, often completely eliminating an individual’s migraine headaches.
Research from Neurologist Jonathan Walker in Dallas shows impressive results using Neurofeedback to reduce or eliminate migraine in 46 individuals. He compared this with a control group of 25 individuals who chose to remain on drug therapy. The research paper can be found here, but in summary:
For the Neurofeedback Group – 54% of patients experienced complete cessation of migraines while 39% experienced a reduction in frequency of greater than 50%. Only 1 patient did not experience a reduction.
For the Medication Control Group – 68% of patients experienced no reduction in frequency, 20% experienced a reduction in frequency less than 50%, and only 8% saw a reduction greater than 50%. Not one patient experienced a complete cessation.
